POLICE DEPARTMENT.
INQUIRY SOUGHT. WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. An inquiry into the administrative methods of "the police was suggested in a notice of question addressed to the Minister of Justice by Mr A. J. Stallworthy in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr Stallworthy’s question was as follows:—Whether in view of the tremendous importance to the public and the force itself of the highest efficiency, confidence and goodwill in association with the administration of the Police Department the Minister will: (1) Institute immediately a full and competent inquiry into all matters relative to the police force, including questions of the standard and methods of examination, entry, promotion, transfers, equipment and general administration; (2) make full provision in promoting such inquiry for all members of the force to have the right to make representations; (.5) make the result of such inquiry available to the House.
