ATROCITIES IN SPAIN.

DURING RECENT REVOLT,

HEAVY LOSS OF LIFE.

LONDON, Oct. 29. The Morning' Post’s Madrid correspondent says that the first uncensored message since the revolt furnishes details of “atrocities that shame Europe.” The wholesale destruction - of life and property in the Asturias during the 15 days of barbarous government by Socialists and Communists is stated to be beyond description. Groups of rebels have fled to the mountains, where they apparently intend to conduct guerilla warfare. Military Courts are busily trying the rebels, but there will be no executions until all sentences are passed, when the Government will review the cases.

Over 2500 were killed during the revolt, and thousands were wounded or maimed. The damage at Oviedo is at least £5,000,000. The rebels, in some cases, Bed police and priests to trees. Sticks of dynamite were placed at their feet and exploded, murdering them. The bodies of 26 priests have already been traced. A canon at Oviedo had his eyes plucked out. The nude body of a priest was exhibited in a butcher’s window labelled “Pork 10 cents a kilo.”

Senor Larroux’s Government is triumphant and must now punish the culprits and re-establish law and order. There are manv smouldering embers.
