ROUND TABLE CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Women’s Round Table Club was held in the t.W.C.A. ciubrooms last night, when Mrs W. Galbraith presided. In reviewing the club’s activities in its initial year, the report stated that it had been launched in October, 1933, for the impartial study of current affairs; Steady progress had been made, the result being that the membership now stood at 31. The club dinner in September had been attended by members and friends to the number of 92. At the regular meetings excellent addresses on topical subjects had been given by first-class speakers, the programme being varied with book reviews, debates and play-readings. Thanks were expressed to all who had assisted with the programmes. The balance-sheet showed that a small credit had resulted on the year’s operations.
In formally moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mrs Galbraith expressed gratification at the success attained, which had been largely due to the efforts of the general secretary, Miss Ashton, and Miss I. Pascoe, club secretary, with the loyal support of members. The motion was carried without discussion. A vote of thanks was accorded the retiring president on the motion of Miss Ashton. Officers were elected as follow : —President, Mrs W. Galbraith; club secretary, Miss I. Pa.scoe; committee. Misses Fitzgerald, F. Ross, Floyd and Musgrave. The play, “The Pigeon” (Galsworthy), was read at the conclusion of the meeting, after which supper was served.
