OBITUARY.
MRS ELIZABETH MALCOLM,
With the passing of Mrs Elizabeth Malcolm at her residence in Queen Street East, Levin, on Sunday evening the district- lost one of its oldest settlers. Mrs Malcolm, who was born at Wellington in November, 1861, was the second daughter of the late Captain and Mrs John Sedcole. Captain Sedcole was one of the early master mariners of the Wellington harbour. After the death of her father, and while a young woman, Mrs Malcolm, with her relatives, removed to Foxton, in which town she was on the teaching staff of the school for a number of years. In 1879, at Foxton, she was married to the late Mr Edward Malcolm and some years later, in 1894, they went to reside in Levin. For some time Mrs Malcolm was librarian at the Levin Public Library and she was also one of the oldest members of the St. Mary’s Ladies’ Guild and St. Mary’s Church. She had always enjoyed good health and her sudden death came as a shock to her relatives. Her husband predeceased her about five years ago. Mrs Malcolm is survived by four sons, Messrs Alexander (Kirikapuni), Harry (Auckland), Victor (New Plymouth), and Robert (Levin), and three daughters, Mesdames J. Aim (Shannon), Edward Law (Whakatane) and L. H. Robinson (Christchurch). Mesdames Jameg Prouse (Levin) and T. Chamberlain (Wellington) and Miss Sedcole (Levin) are sisters.
