Mr H. L. Massey, of Auckland, is a visitor to Palmerston North. Hon. E. A. Ransom, Minister of Lands, is making excellent progress after his recent operation.
Mr W. J. Guinan, health officer at Levin, has been admitted as an associate of the Royal Sanitary Institute (England). Mr G. W. Hutchison, Mayor of Auckland, left yesterday for Sydney. He expects to reach Melbourne on November 5, and will be the guest of the Centenary Council.
A distinguished visitor to Wellington next week wilt be Dr Sydney Nicholson, M.V.0., M.A., formerly organist at Westminster Abbey. Dr Nicholson is expected to arrive on Tuesday. Formerly stationed at Palmerston North some two years ago, Mr FraserSmith, a well-known M airarapa and North Island ltugby football representative, will leave Masterton on Monday to take up a position at Dannevirke as the representative of a mercantile firm.
Mr B. J. Jacobs, president of the Palmerston North branch of the R.S.A., leaves for Melbourne on Monday as a member of the delegation from the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association to attend the British Empire conference of ex-service-men’s organisations. The death of Mr A. W. Mills, formerly a well-known West Coast accountant and sportsman, occurred at Otaki yesterday. Mr Mills, who was born in London, came to New Zealand as a young man. For a number of years he was in business -in Westport as a public accountant, and a few years ago resided in Christchurch. He was well known on the West Coast and in the Manawatu as an enthuisastic sportsman. He is survived by his widow and five children: Mrs A. W. Gyles (Wellington), Mrs P. T. Brown (Eden, New South Wales), Miss R. Mills (Otaki), Mr R. Mills (Hamilton), and Mr L. Mills (Otaki).
