WOODVILLE.

WOOIIVILLE Oct. 26. Those present at the monthly' meeting of the Woodville School Committee were Messrs R. R. Johnston (chairman), A. M. Pickering (secretary), G. W. Slane (headmaster), L. Williams, L. Hurley, R. Peebles, L. J. Whittington, T. A. B.’ Sinclair, and 11. Pilcher. An apology for absence was received from Mr E. Nicholson. The Woodville County Council wrote intimating that it was prepared to undertake tho tar-sealing of the footpaths at the school, and that the matter was now in the hands of the engineer.—The chairman said that the engineer would carry out tho work at the earliest opportunity. No action was taken with regard to a proposal to introduce a post office savings bank scheme at the school. The headmaster reported as follows:—The roll numbers and attendances for last month were: High School: Present roll 42, average attendance 40.6; Primary: 276, 262. Woodville played Ruahine in tho midweek cricket competition on Wednesday. Woodville won tho toes and elected to bat. The principal scorers were A. Burlaco (25) and P. Burlaco (19), both of whom shaped very well. W. Erickson’s bowling was a feature of the innings and his figures were 6 wickets for 30 runs. M. Erickson took 3 for 16. The total for the innings was 61 runs, lluahin'e’s innings yielded 62. Rowe was the principal scorer with 21 runs and the next highest was Morris with 11. P. Burlace bowled consistently to lake 4 wickets for 13 and his brother, J. Burlaco, 5 for 21—both good efforts. Woodville completed their second innings with 103 on the board. P. Burlace (15), J. Burlaco (24) and Simpson (16) were the most successful batsmen. W. Erickson again bowled very well, taking 7 wickets for 42 runs. Ruahine commenced their second innings, and at stumps had four wickets down for 12 runs, placing Woodville in a sound position. Mr P. Boardman, who has been atikehod to the Dannevirke railway clerical staff since May of last year, has been transferred to Woodville. His successor, Mr J. A. Abraham, from Ekotahuna, has commenced duty. Mr G. Banks, of Woodville, who was crushed between two lorries recently, i 3 making satisfactory progress in the Dannevirke Hospital.

Official advice has been received that it is intended to open a training centre at Woodville for a troop of Mounted Rifles.
