PAYMENT IN CASH.

CHRISTMAS BONUS FOR UNEMPLOYED. WELLINGTON, Oct. 26. A special cash bonus of £65,000 will be distributed by the Unemployment Board among the unemployed at Christmas. It was the original intention of the Government, said the acting Minister of Employment (Hon. J. A. Young) in the House of Representatives to-day, to issue cash orders on stores where the men could purchase boots or clothing, but it was finally decided that the best policy was to give the men the cash. “It works out at about £1 a man,” commented a member. Mr W. Nash: It means about £65,000 extra ? The Minister: Yes, in addition to any payments the men will receive for work during the holidays.
