Received October 26, 1.25 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 25. The Home Office has circulated the film trade announcing that news reels in future must not contain gruesome scenes, such as dead and mutilated bodies, and other horrors. These will not be alloived. This is a result of the exhibition of the Marseilles assassination. The circular adds that if a film is of a political flavour it must first be censored so as not to offend the public. The Duke of Kent, introduced by the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York, will take his seat in the House of Lords on November 7.
RUGBY, Oct. 25. Gold from the Bettys-y-Coedhvr mine, eight miles from Dolgelly (Wales), has been forwarded to a. firm of London jewellers to be used for making Princess Marina’s wedding ring. Mr Norman Davis, with Mr Atherton, of the United States Embassy, visited Dovuiing Street for a discussion with the Prime Minister (Mr Ramsay MacDonald) and Sir John Simon in connection with the naval conversations. CANBERRA, Oct. 26. Mr L. J. Schmitt, New Zealand Trade Commissioner, who is representing the Dominion Government at the Royal festivities, has interviewed Commonwealth officials in connection with trade and tourist matters. He also met at Canberra the tourist committee and appointed tourist agents. WASHINGTON, Oct, 26. The United States has made representations to Japan against the proposed Manchukuo State oil monopoly on the ground that it tvould be detrimental to the United States oil companies and a violation of the “open door” policy and the Nine Power Treaty. SYDNEY, Oct. 26. A message has been received from Rabaul that the 24 members of the Japanese crew of the sampan recently seized for poaching have been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and fined £IBOO.
