AMATEUR ATHLETICS. FEILDING CLUB’S REPORT
The annual report of the Feilding Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club discloses a successful season, the finances, after all expenses have been met, being sufficient to allow a small credit to be shown.
The report continues as follows: “The club promoted 12 road races and two special races; the 20-mile Manawatu championship and the Robson cup race, also 12 evening meetings were held at Kowhai Park at each of which some half-dozen cycling and athletic events were held. The championship race, although mainly supported by donations of trophies and ribands, shows a loss of a few pounds to the club. Entry fees for the season totalled approximately £lO, of which nearly £9 was allotted back to riders in the form of trophies or orders. The combined sports meeting held at Kowliai Park shows a credit on the books of £6 6s 9d, this being half the profit which was made and divided equally with the Feilding Caledonian Pipe Band. There is also a small amount in credit at the P.O. Bank, having been brought forward from last season. Arrangements have been concluded with the Feilding Borough Council for a track to be laid at Johnston Park and which it is hoped will eventually be illuminated for the purpose of holding night meetings. Kowliai Park, which has hitherto been used by arrangement with the Cricket Association, was not available for training purposes, and whilst the committee have recorded their appreciation of the assistance accorded them by the association, it was felt that a track on Johnston Park could not fail to be more satisfactory to all concerned. A track, available throughout the summer, for training would be a decided attraction besides which it could be made a source of revenue as admission would be charged at special meetings. The park does not permit of the full 440 yards track and will be of similar dimensions to the Marton grounds on which entirely successful’meetings are held. The retiring executive have recorded their appreciation of tli assistance received from Mr T. Collins in connection with the Johnston Park movement and to the .reserves committee and the Borough Council; also to the Feilding Cricket Association for their co-operation through the past season and to the club’s many supporters who presented trophies and donations. Thanks are also tendered to voluntary assistants, the West Coast (N. 1.) Centre and to the Press for much valuable publicity and genera! assistance.”

The craft of preaching was never out of date. He explained why the special order of preachers was still necessary. And the preacher’s authority for his w'ork today as of old tvas God: living close to Him in sincerity was the preacher’s privilege. The charge w-as read by the moderator to Mr Spence, who answered the questions, following which Mr King declared the applicant duly licensed to preach and gave him the right hand of fellow'ship. Mr Kerr delivered the address from the pulpit to Mr Spence as follow's: “This service sets the seal on your training for the ministry.
