SERVICES BEAT P.D.C. A FOUR-POINT WIN. The Feilding cricketers were due to make their debut in the local midweek competitions yesterday, but owing to confusion as to the venue ot the game the Feilding Club did not find it possible to make the trip to Palmerston North, and the fixture was consequently deferred till a later date. Optimists, who were to have been Feihling’s opponents, filled in the afternoon usefully by engaging in a friendly game with Kiwi,, the latter club having drawn the bye. The one competition match played was that betw’een Combined Services and P.D.C., and, with the latter club at short strength, the servicemen were able to force a four-point win. P.D.C. had first strike, but Carlisle (29) and Burrows (11) were the only members to enter double figures, and when the final wicket 'fell the total was standing at 60. Rose and Craig played havoc with the ball, the former taking four wickets for 12 runs, and the latter three for 3. Opening with Edlin and Gillespie, Services put on 28 runs for the first wicket, Gillespie being beaten at 17. Thereafter the wickets went cheaply, Edlin carrying the burden, and when the innings closed at 110 the opening batsman was still unbeaten with 71 to his credit, his total including eight fours and two fives, the latter figures being the result of overthrows passing to the boundary. Hardie bowled well for P.D.C., taking six wickets for 27 runs.

With a view to forcing a four-point win in the time remaining, Services put P.D.C. in again and they accomplished their task with three runs to spare, Eade (16) being the only member to enter double figures. Craig again did great damage with the ball, taking four wickets for 15 runs, while Wilson captured four at a cost of 19 runs. Detailed scores are : P.D.C. First Innings.
