UNEMPLOYMENT FUND.
THE REVENUE INCREASE. (By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 4. Although the gazetted figures show that the Unemployment Board had a cash balance of £621,557 at the end of the first quarter of the financial year, the deputy-chairman of the board (Mr W. Bromley), in an interview to day, declared that this figure did not reveal the true position, as there were commitments which might equal the amount of the cash balance. Commenting on the remarkable increase of £432,671 in revenue for the first quarter, making the income for that period £1,389,671, Mr Bromley said this could be explained by the fact that many people paid their tax on unearned income, or income from other sources, at the beginning of the year instead of spreading the payments over the four quarters.
