A! AN AWAT U JUNIOR DIVISIONS. The junior divisions of the Manawatu Football Association were advanced another step- on Saturday at j North Street Park, when a full series ’ of games was played in ail grades. 1 Probably the most even game in the j sixth grade was that between Con- ’ vent School A and Terrace End, the 5 result being in doubt right to the end. ‘ Another even game was that between j Convent School B and Y.M.C.A. Both ' teams are very, small, and a draw was I a good result. Recliabites sprang a : surprise on College Street B by securing the points in a game which brought ’ out some good individual play on both 1 sides. College Street A again showed 1 themselves one of the most solid teams - in the grade by defeating Hokowhitu. In the fifth grade Y.M.C.A. retained ■ the top position in the table by a decisive win over St. Paul’s. Te Awe 1 Awe Juniors were well held by. a much ; improved Technical School team during the first half, but finally ran out good winners. St. Patrick’s tried ■ conclusions with a new team in Y.AI.C.A. B, and had no difficulty in annexing the points. Rovers were • good value for their win against Takaro, in a game wherein both sides showed up well. In the fourth grade, St. Paul’s met Te Awe Awe Old Boys in a game that proved to be just as interesting to the 1 spectators as all games in this grade : have been this season. Te Awe Awe opened up very strong- ■ ly and it was not long before a goal - came, Nicholls sending in a fine centre from the right wing winch enabled Toms to score with a shot which gave the goalie no chance. Soon after, Coilins (Old Boys) made an excellent try for a goal, but Zimmerman just turned the final effort round the post. St. Paul’s then took up the running, and after pressing for a time were awarded a corner. The resultant kick was well placed, but was cleared by the Te Awe Awe defenders. Play then transferred to the other end, and with Zimmerman out of goal, Nicholls secured to score the second goal for Te Awe Awe. From the kick-off, St. Paul’s made a quick raid on the Old Boys’ goal, and were unlucky not to score, the final shot just going over. Te Awe Awe soon worked to the other end again and from a scramble in front of goal Richardson netted a third goal. Half-time came with the score 3—o in favour of Tel Awe Awe. Immediately on the resumption St. Paul’s got going and Robinson completely deceived the goalie with a shot which he made no effort to save. Encouraged by this success, St. Paul’s now took up the running and almost penned Te Awe Awe in their own half. A breakaway by Te Awe Awe ended in Nicholls just missing with a good shot which struck the crossbar and rebounded into play. St. Paul’s quickly took ur> the running again and from a well-placed corner Marshall headed on to a defender’s shoulder and thence into the net. From the kick-off Te Awe Awe made a spurt and Collins was prominent with a good run down the field, his final kick just failing to score. With only a few minutes to go and S't. Paul’s pressing all the time, a goal seemed inevitable and it came two minutes from the end when Marshall scored, thus evening up the score. No further scoring came and an interesting game ended 3 —3. Mr F. W. Ivey was the referee. Members of the St. John Ambulance were on duty on the ground, and their attendance was much appreciated.
