MESSAGE TO AUSTRALIA.

FROM PRIME MINISTER OF NEAV ZEALAND. GOODWILL AND UNDERSTANDING. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 16. A goodwill message to the people of Australia from the Prime Minister of New Zealand (Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) was carried to Sydney by Mr A. B. Lane, manager of the United Press Association, who is now visiting Australia. The message, which is being published to-day by the Sydney Morning Herald, reads as follows: “New Zealanders have closely followed the progress and welfare of the Commonwealth during the period of economic depression. Faced with similar difficulties, we have been deeply interested in the measures adopted in Australia in dealing with the many serious problems demanding solution.

“AVe come from the same British stock, and. we know that the courage and self-relianoo of Australians have been put to a searching test during the critical period through which they have passed. It is a real pleasure, however, to learn that the prospects of economic recovery in the Commonwealth have become brighter and that a return to more normal conditions may now with confidence be contemplated. “To New Zealand this year we have been happy to welcome many visitors from Australia, and there are indications that a. substantial increase in tho tourist traffic between our two countries may be anticipated. Indeed, our geographical position lends itself to this interchange of visits, and the mutual intercourse and understanding thus promoted must bring about beneficial results. Tlie recent trans-Tasman aviation achievements afford a happy augury for the establishment of frequent air services which will unite Australia and New Zealand in still closer relations.

“I am voicing the sentiments of the people of the Dominion in extending our heartiest good wishes for the future prosperity of Australia.’.’
