RELIEF MEASURES.

POSITION IN ASHBURTON. Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, April 17. The opinion of the Borough Council in regard to the Unemployment Board’s policy of penalising the downs which make a special effort to assist the unemployment problem, and cutting down weekly allocations for relief workers’ wages because of these efforts, was expressed in strong terms at a meeting of the council when it was stated that no measure for procuring extra relief for distressed families would be undertaken by residents of the borough or county this year. Last year’s special drive realised £I7OO.

It was resolved to ask the Unemployment Board for an undertaking that the borough allocations should not be penalised in any way because of the emergency measures taken by residents.
