Their Excellencies, Lord and the Lady Bledisloe, Avho have been making an extensive visit of North Canterbury districts, Avill arrive in Wellington this evening.
Mr Hugh Walpole, the distinguished novelist and literary critic, expects next year to visit Auckland, Avliere he Avas born in 1884. He Avas sent to England to be educated at the age of five.
FolloAving the acceptance of Mr L. E. Roav’s resignation as county engineer the Patea County Council has decided that Mr J. N. Anderson, of Franklyn County Council, be offered the position. Mr Jas. Wallace, Avho is recuperating from his recent illness, at Plimmerton, is making a very satisfactory recovery, although there is no indication yet as to Avhen lie will be able to resume his usual business activities.
His Grace the Archbishop of Ncav Zeala.nd has appointed Rev. E. M. CoAvie, M.A., vicar of Khandallah in the Diocese of Wellington, to be his commissary for the purpose of calling and presiding at the Synod of the Diocese of Nelson, Avhich Avill elect a successor to the oresent bishop, Avho Avi'll retire next year. Rev. E. M. CoAvie is a son of the late Bishop Coivie, of Auckland, Avho Avas Primate from 1893 to 1902. He Avas vicar of Hamilton from 1908 to 1926, and Archdeacon from 1913 to 1929. It is proposed to call the special session for the election of a bishop for Thursday, December 14. Paymaster-Captain H. O. Parker, R.N. (retired), president of the Auckland branch of the Navy League, who died this Aveek at the age of 68 years, was present at the bombardment of Alexandria in 1882, and afterwards saAV service on Indian troopships at Malta and Gibraltar. Captain Parker Avas Fleet-Paymaster on the battleship St. George Avlien it took part in the Dardanelles campaign in 1915. Later lie was transferred to the South Shields minesAveeping base on the Tyne, and Avas appointed to the staff of an Edinburgh coastguard base in 1918. In 1921 he retired with the rank of Pay-master-Captain. Captain Parker Avent to live in Auckland in 1928.
