DEVELOPMENT PLAN.
ROAD IN SOUTHLAND. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Dec. 1. That work on the Kingston-Queens-town road should be recommenced at an early date was the opinion of a conference of the Southland Progressive League and local bodies held to-day. It was stated that the Government, through the Transport Bord, could limit vehicles using the new road to those engaged in nassenger traffic. This would allay fears that the railway service would be doomed were the road completed. The conference also passed a remit urging that every endeavour be made to bring about a reinstatement of the Bluff-Alelbourne passenger service at the earliest date. It was contended that reinstatement of this service was most essential in Southland’s interests, more so as the Alelbourne Centenary is to be held next year.
