WOODVILLE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) WOODVILLE, Sept. 22. Constable McCowan, arms officer at Palmerston North, paid a visit to Woodville yesterday in the course of his duty in checking the firearms throughout the district. A committee meeting of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held at the residence of Mrs R. H. Henderson, yesterday afternoon, to arrange celebrations for the division’s birthday to bo held on October 9. It was decided that they should take the form of a social and dance. Apologies for absence were received from Mcsdames Grinlinton, Curry, Ball, Johnston and Grey. Woollen garments which had been made by members for a competition were given out for distribution among necessitious cases. Afternoon tea handed round by Mrs Henderson was much appreciated. The annual general meeting of the Woodville Cricket Club was held in the Returned Soldiers’ Club room last evening, Mr F. D. Mackie presiding over a small attendance. The balance-sheet submitted and approved by the meeting disclosed a credit balance of £9 17s 6d, which was considered very satisfactory. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Dr. P. H. Mules; president, Mr W. Miller; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Elder, 11. Stace, W. Ishenvood, P. G. Wigzell, O. 11. Druce. H. McNeil, Rolfe, R. G. Smith, T. Ryan, L .Whittington, J. Brandon, T. H. Williams. J. Sullivan, M. Desmond and H. E. Russell; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. Wiley; auditor, F. D. Mackie; team captain, Mr C. Gallon; club captain, Mr J. Charles; committee, Messrs E. Nicholson; W. Moir, N. Stanborough and J. Fulton. Subscrip tions for the season were fixed at 10s 6d for senior players and 2s 6d for juniors. It was decided to enter a senior team in the Dannevirke Cricket Association’s competition. The following new members were elected: Messrs L. Hurley, P. Brandon and R. Hart. the Returned Soldiers’ Association, Mr A. Harris, the secretary and tho Press. It was decided that the secretary be given free membership in recognition of his services.
