NORTHERN CLUB
BOWLING, CROQUET, TENNIS. The general committee of the Northern Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club met in the pavilion, North Street, last niglrt ; the president (Mr J. C. Young) being in the chair. Arrangements were completed for the opening day, which has been fixed for Wednesday, October 11. The Mayor is to be invited to officiate at the ceremony. Further improvements in the appointments of the club were discussed, and providing the cost is not prohibitive will be proceeded with at an early date. The president reported that the lease of the grounds from the City Council had been renewed for five years on similar terms to those obtaining under the previous lease. Accounts totalling £SB 16s lOd were passed for payment. The caretaker (Mr G. Lynch) was accorded the club’s sympathy in the accident which had recently befallen Mrs Lynch, and hopes were expressed for her complete and early recovery It will be remembered that Mrs Lynch was the victim of a collision with a motor lorry. The green supervisor (Mr R. McKee) reported that the playing areas were in good order and, given fine weather, everything would be in readiness for the opening day. The membership fees for the various sections were considered aind it was agreed that they were reasonable and required no alteration. It was decided to impress on members the advantage of securing a rebate for prompt payment of subscriptions. Members discussed the club’s gala party to be run on similar lines to the successful one last season, and it was decided to have the fixture early in February next.
