BOWLING.
DIXON CUP GAME. The first match of the 1932-33 season for the Dixon Cup was played on Saturday, when the Manawatu Club was successful in its challenge, and the trophy, which had been in the keeping of tho Palmerston North Club since last season, changed hands, Manawatu winning by 21 points to 16. The rinks which participated were:- —- Palmerston North: Mowlem, Child, H. Nash, Bary (skip). Manawatu: Shand, Kennedy, Corbridge, Uiney (skip). The challengers gained a commanding advantage on the early heads, being five up at the close of the third. The holders reduced the deficit by one a.t the next end, but a three to Manawatu at the sth made the score B—l8 —1 in the visitors’ favour. Three singles to Palmerston North followed, but each side then registered a three in succession, leaving the totals 11 —7 at the 10th. The holders further reduced their deficit by a single at the next, while then followed a two to each side. Tho issue hung in the balance when Palmerston North secured a two at tho 16th head, but the challengers made their victory assured by winning the next three heads 1 —2 —2. Although down 21—-12. the holders fought out the issue, and by taking the last two heads with a three and a single, reduced the final scores to : Manawatu 21, Palmerston North 16. INTER-CLUB GAMES.
The Terrace End and Manawatu Clubs inter-changed teams on Saturday. The honours were shared, the visiting rink on the respective greens carrying the day. On the Manawatu green the scores were: Terrace End : Andrews, Luke, Gordon, Munro (skip) 34 bent Manawatu: Robertson, Penketh. Warwick, McDonald (skip) 29. On tho Terraco End green a closely fought game saw the following result. Manawatu: (Mason. Gough, Bates, Broughton (skip) IS beat Terrace End : Knowles, Bee, Helsby, Christiansen (skip) 16. Tho following rinks will represent tho Manawatu Club in a challenge to the Takaro Club for the Ainslie Shield on Wednesday.: D. W. Low, Inglis, Radford, King (skip): Oxenham. Porter, Gilbert. Barnes (skip). A gala day will be held on the Manawatu greens next Saturday.
