EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD/ NOVEMBER 7, 1902. Tho apple orchards in the Bnnnvthorpe district were reported to be in particularly promising condition, and large crops' were anticipated. Candidates who visited Ashhurst in the course of their general election campaigns were being requested to favour the construction of a light railwav from Ashlrurst up the Pohangina Valley to tap the country as far as to the illness of his mother, Lord Hawke, it- was reported, might be unable to accompany the cricket team to New Zealand. Unresft in the ranks of the German Army was reported from Berlin. It was stated that revolutionary Socialist propaganda was inciting privates against their commanders, who were being urged to combat the agitation.
