ROYAL SHOW ENDS

GATE TAKINGS INCREASE. “VERY SATISFACTORY RESULT.” ATTENDANCE NEARLY 40,000. Admissions to the Royal .Show from tho beginning to the end of the exhibition last week numbered 38,351, and.tho total gate takings were £1516 11s lOd, including £9B 2s 6d from the stadium. Tho takings represented an increase of £324 18s 9d over tho figures for the Spring Show of last year, and £lO9 Is 4d more than for the Royal Show fixture of 1928. The gate takings on Saturday amounted to £135 17s 2d. This was the first time the extension of the fixture to a fourth day had been made by the A. and P. Association. The improved financial returns have Ikjcii secured despite a reduction of the gate charges from 2s to Is Od. “It is an extremely satisfactory result,” commented the president of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association (Mr M. A. Eliott), “particularly when there is taken into consideration tho large membership of the association, which carries with it the privilego of two ladies’ tickets for each day of the Show; and it has to be remembered that a large increase in tho membership has taken place in the past two years. “Tho expenses have been heavy in connection with tho Royal Show and a pro forma statement will probably not be submitted lor several weeks. The .stadium has proved its value and the actual receipts credited it do not disclose tho true position, as it helped to swell tho main gate takings as well.”
