EXCITEMENT AT RIFLE MEETING.
SNAKE ON THE MOUNDS. KILLED BY NEW ZEALANDER. Received October 11, 11.15 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 11. If the members of the New Zealand rifle team, at present in camp at Anzac Range, return home without a prize, tboy will not mind. Yesterday, one of them, R. H. Nichol (Petone) killed a 6ft. black snake on the mounds and then calmly skinned it. His mates were more excited than if he had won the King’s Prize. RESULTS OF MATCHES. SYDNEY, Oct. 10. The National Rifle Association’s King’s Prize meeting at Liverpool today was hampered by a biting cold wind, but good scores were made in the opening matches of the A series. The Mark Foy match, ten shots at 300 yards, was won by Summerville (Manly) with the possible, O’Donnell (Petone) with 49 taking 70s. The Lemaistre match, ten shots at 600 yards, was won by Harrison (Newcastle) with the possible. The following New Zealanders won £1 each:— Cromie, 47; O’Donnell, E. A. Ballinger, Koppert, W. H. Ballinger, 45.
