MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 29. In a reserved judgment, Mr E. Page, S.M., convicted George Harold Bennett, aged 40, a barman, for using the private bar of the Alhambra Hotel for the purposes of betting and fined him £ls. The fine may be paid at the rate of £1 per week. A relief worker, Lawrence Chapman, on a charge of carrying on business as a bookmaker, was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, It was alleged that tho offence was committed at a whippet race meeting at Tawa Flat on September 4. Albert Henry O’Mailey, aged 37, a labourer, was committed for trial on a charge of uttering a counterfeit coin, knowing it to be counterfeit, and having another in his possession. Both the coins were half-crowns.
