RANGIOTU WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

Mrs Beard presided over a large attendance at rhe August meeting of tho Rangiotu Institute. The president introduced to tho members Mesdames Short and McCorkindale, of the provincial executive, who were present to give much appreciated help and advice. Mesdumes Kelly and Fawcett were elected new members. Tho points prizo competition was for tlie best article knitted from not more than three ounces of wool. J udging proved to bo a difficult task, and the judges, Mesdames Short and McCorkindale, made tho following awards: Miss Linda Searancke 1, Mrs Toogood 2, Mrs Beard 3. Mrs Leech, of Bainesse, gave an interesting demonstration on tho making of organdie novelties a.nd work-boxes. Two delightful songs were given by Miss Lois Brooker, of New Blymouth, which were heartily applauded. An amusing novelty competition, arranged by Miss G. Hughes, that of tearing a hat from newspaper and tho wearing of the creation, resulted as follows: Mrs Toogood 1, Miss Perry 2, Mrs Russell 3. A dainty afternoon tea was served by tho hostesses, Misses Dixon, Campbell, Perry and Searancke. Mrs J. Baker moved a vote of thanks to Mesdames Short and McCorkindalo for their able assistance and advice. Tho National Anthem brought an entertaining afternoon to a close. The competition for the next meeting will bo for the best darned article.
