NEW ZEALAND TOURNAMENT. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Aug. 28. The New Zealand basketball tournament was concluded on Saturday, tlio weather breaking shortly after midday and heavy rain setting in with the result that the afternoon games had to be played indoors. Otago won the New Zealand Cup, going through the tournament unbeaten, and Wellington, who were defeated only once, won the Annie Brown Cup for the runners-up. Ashburton take the President’s Shield for the team from tho minor associations winning most points. The match between the North and South Islands was won by the North by 22 to 19 after an exciting contest. Adidtional results of Saturday’s play were as under: —Otago 17 beat Southland 15j Wellington 22 beat Auckland 19; Hawke’s Bay 15 beat South Canterbury 14; Canterbury 2G beat Marlborough 19. Points for the New Zealand Cup wero obtained as follow : —Otago IG, Wellington 14, Canterbury 10, Auckland 10, Southland 10, Ashburton 6, Hawke’s Bay 4, South Canterbury. 2, Marlborough 0.
