OPENING OF PARLIAMENT. EMERGENCY SESSION. Per Press Association. ■ WELLINGTON, Feb. 23. By a commission of five Legislative Councillors, the first session of the twenty-fourth Parliament opened this afternoon. After the Letters Patent had been read bv Sir Walter Carneross, Speaker of the Legislative Council, the members of the House of Representatives adjourned to the Lower Chamber, where they were sworn in by the Clerk of the House, after which Sir Charles Statham was nominated as Speaker, which office he has held since 1923. LABOUR PARTY CAUCUS. MR HOLLAND RE-ELECTED LEADER. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb, 23. The Labour Party caucus re-elected Mr H. E. Holland its Leader in the House and Mr M. J. Savage deputyL'eader, Mr P. Fraser, secretary and Mr W. E. Barnard assistant-secretary. Messrs D. G. Sullivan and E. J. Howard .were reappointed Whips. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr Savage in his illness and the hope was expressed that it would soon be possible for him to take his seat, during the session.
