ASHHURST.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHHURST, Dec. 4. The monthly meeting of tho Ashhurst School Committee was held on Tuesday evening last. An apology for absenco was received from the chairman, Mr W. N. Brewer, whoso attendance at a mooting in Bunnythorpe had prior claim. Mr Wilkin therefore occupied the chair in the presence of Messrs Woodroofo, Cheyne, Bristow, Davis, Sumner and the headmaster. Accounts amunting to about £6 were passed for payment. The headmaster’s report stated that repairs to the front entrance had been effected, but an iron latch was still required for the side gate. Repairs to the wire netting round the tenins courts had not yet been done. The monthly roll of tho school was 149 and the average attendance was 140. The final examinations for the year were .well under way and would bo completed by tho end of tho present week. On Tuesday next tho Standard 6 pupils had to go to Russell Street School to sit for their proficency examination. Three cars would bo required, of which two were already available. Miss Wilkinson asked if a Christmas tree could bo provided as a breaking up ceremony for the infants. Arising out of the headmaster’s report, a difference of opinion was voiced over the Christmas tree proposal several members fearing that it would handicap tho committee when it came to arrango for tho annual school sports and picnic. However, it was eventually decided to hold tho function at tho school and to limit it to bona fido pupils on tho infant school roll. Tho date for tho calf judging has been sec by tho centre for December 14 and for the group judging December 16. SCOUTS. Tho annual meeting of tho Boy Scouts' Association was held in the Parish Hall on Monday evening last. Mr W. G. Roinley was reappointed chairman, Mr Amos secretary, and Messrs Trass, Taylor, Dobson, Fenwick and Rev. R. E. Fordycc tho committeo. Rev. Mr Fordyco was retained as seoutmasetr and Rev. Mr Gocrtz as chaplain. The scoutmaster outlined tho work done by tho troup during the year and received tho approval of all present in the work being done, the smart appearance of the boys on parade and good behaviour of tho lads. About ten boys had expressed a desire to attend the scout camp to bo held in Feilding shortly, and tho question of transport for them was discussed and provided for. Mr Colin Romley was appointed assistant scoutmaster and was authorised to take chargo of tho Ashhurst boys while in camp, 'ihreo new boys were nominated for enrolment.
