NARROW ESCAPE.
FIRE ON PIER. Though some escaped to the shore, defying smoke and flames, others of 200 dancers in a building in the middle of Penarth Pier (Wales) were cut off by a fire which suddenly broke out in the dance hall op August 4. They rushed to the pier head and found retreat impossible. They then shouted for assistance. Pilot cutters, manned by members of the Barry and Penarth Yacht Clubs, rushed to their aid, and brought them safely ashore.
