PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, July 29. Airs D. Lynch, Kohinui, is spending a holiday at Rotorua. Airs C. D. AI. Day, Tararua Street, left on Alonday for a short holiday in Dunedin. Miss Helen Crawford is visiting Airs D. Rutherford, Mastcrton. Air Dermont Lynch, of Kohinui, is a visitor to Rotorua. A little boy named J. J. Dovey, son of Air and Airs Dovey, received a severe blow in the face, being struck by a football, whilst engaged in playing at the school. Tho filial play for tho Hamua Golf Club’s cup took place during the week-end, the winner being C. R. Boys. The scoring was: C. R. Boys 80 —6 —74; H. G. Brookes 98 — 16—82. Considerable interest is being maintained in play for the Byrne Gold Button, the present holders being Aliss May Warner and Air C. R. Boys, who won them from Aliss Osborne and Air It. Snowden, and now several challengers aro on the waiting list to try and relieve them of tho trophies. A match between the Eketahuna and Hamua clubs, played at Hamua at the week-end, resulted in a win for Eketahuna by ten games to seven. Tho annual meeting of the Pahiatua Racing Club, held last evening was very largely attended. The president, Air James McCardle, occupied tho chair. Air McCardlo, retiring president, proposed that Air H. AlcSherry, ono of the oldest members of tho club, bo elected president for tho ensuing year, and tho motion was carried unanimously. Air P. Tulloch paid tribute to tho retiring president who had done everything possible to mako tho Pahiatua Racing Club a success. Ho deserved tho best thanks of tho members of tho club. Tho three vicepresidents elected were Alessrs James AlcCardle, Peter Tulloch and S. V. Rodney. Of last year’s stewards Messrs A. McNeilage (who has left ,tho district), and E. Scandrett signified that they did not wish to seek re-election. There wore sixteen nominations for the eleven seats on tho stewards’ committee, and a ballot resulted in the return of Alessrs D. Kelly, E. Smith, S. T. Tinncy, R. J. Smith, C. Connell, F. Aloorc, F. Britland, W. AlcDowell, G. D. H. Smith (all old members of tho committee), C. Johnski (senr.), and C. Hodgins. Tho following reappointments were made: Treasurer, Mr H. McSherry; honorary surgeons, Drs H. T. Dawson and H. Paterson; auditor, Air R. C. Austin. Air AlcSherry moved: “That on the retirement from tho office of president of the club this meeting wishes to express its warm appreciation of tho services rendered by Air J. AicCardle.” The motion was carried by acclamation. A resolution of sympathy with Air Cowan in jiis illness and the hopo for his speedy recovery was passed by the meeting.
