WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. The share market continues dull and slow, with a few buyers about. On the Wellington Stock Exchange thero wore three sales reported yesterday, and of these two were of Bank of New Zealand. The shares of this bank have advanced under buying pressure. On February 10, they sold in Auckland at 42s 9d and the low price attracted buyers, and yesterday they sold up to 46s 6d with the demand unsatisfied. The Bank of New Zealand long term shares were wanted at 45s 6d, but sellers asked 275. Australian Bank of Commerce were Steady at 13s 6d. National Bank of New Zealand at £4 12s 6d wore 2s 6d up on tho previous bid. Union Bank were in demand at £6 10s, or 30s above'the par value of the shares, while in London they wero quoted at £4 15s or 15s discount on February 17. Bank of New South Wales were on sale at £26 10s with no buyers. Government securities were slow, but steady. Tho 44. per cent, stocks, 1939 and 1938, wero in demand at £93, and there were inquiries for the 54 per cent, stoex, 1936, at £99 ss. Auckland Harbour Board, 54 per cents., 1939, were wanted at £94. Goldsbrough Mort and Coy. were steady at 16s 6d; New Zealand Insurance were firm at 35a 6d; and South British wero wanted at 49s 6d, with sellers at 525. Gear Meat were firm at 26s 9d, and New Zealand- Refrigerating, 10s paid, wero steady at Is. For Leyland-O’Brien Timber, 20s was again offered. Staples and Coy. were firm at 30s 6d. Burns, Philp and Coy. were up 6d ac 27s 6d; Electrolytic Zinc preference at 14s 6d; and Dunlop Rubber at 6s were unchanged. Wilson’s Cement at 26s 9d show a further advance of 9d. Whitcombe and Tombs were steady at 535. Mount Lyell were firm at 18s 6d with a sale at 18s 9d.

MASTERTON, Feb. 19. Tho annual ram fair of the Mastorton A. and P. Association opened to-day. There was a very large attendance, but few buyers operated from outside the district. Prices for flock Romney rams were in advance of recent fairs and ranged from 1 guinea to 6i guineas. The highest price for stud Romney rams was 31 guineas which was obtained for an animal sold on account of Mr William Perry, Masterton. Passings were, numerous, but high-grade animals were in demand. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. SYDNEY, Feb. 19. At the wool salee to-day the offerings totalled 11,173 bales, of which 10,403 were sold at auction, also 2049 bales sold privately. The market continues firm with good competition, especially on Japanese account. Greasy Merino made up to 23d.
