POHANGINA VALLEY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) POHANGINA, Jan. 3. New Year's Day being so gloriously fine, a record crowd of picnickers spent a pleasant time at the numerous beauty spots on the banks of the Pohangina River. The spot below the Raumai Bridge was well patronised, being an ideal place for bathing and the sandy beach being splendid for the entertainment of small children. The Y.M.C.A. camp, now pitched among the lovely native scenery on the north bank of the river, proved the main attraction to visitors on Thursday, over 200 people visiting tho camp, where a moat enjoyable time was spent. Sports and competitions were held and visitors were made acquainted with tho camp routine. About 60 young men are in the camp under the supervision of Mr C. YVoods (secretary) who i 3 accompanied and assisted by Mrs YVoods and Mr G. R. Pitkethley (assistant secretary). The weather has proved ideal, and the camp will continue until January 15. . ~ On New Year’s Eve a most enjoyable dance, organised by the young people of Pohangina, was held in the local hall. Splendid music was dispensed by an electric gramophone kindly lent free of charge, with numerous fine records by Messrs A. J. Berryman and Co., Palmerston North. Extras on the piano were contributed by Misses Hanlon and Fenwick. There was a good attendance and though the night was very warm, an enjoyable time was spent by all. Mr Geo. Wagstaff acted as M.C.
