NEW YEAR PARTY.

FLOCK HOUSE TRAINEES. “Yours is the world, arid yours the task, with God’s help, to fashion a well rendering and willing service, prompted by what Flock House has given you and by the friendships which had birth there. On these lines there is promise of happiness for tire New Year and the j'ears to follow.” This was the message forwarded by Sir James Allen to the boys and girls of Flock House when a very pleasant New Year party was held at the station on New Year’s night. The Flock House girls and other guests were kindly motored by friends from Palmerston North to Bulls. Dancing was interspersed with items by the boys and girls, the sailors’ hornpipe danced by twelve boys in regular Jack Tar uniform being a feature. There were torch races, obstacle races and dancing drill by the girls. After a delightful supper provided by the hostel staff, the party terminated at midnight with a balloon, streamer and confetti dance, followed by Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.

During the proceedings Mr T. R. Lees, managing trustee, after apologising for the absencei through indisposition of the chairman of trustees, Mr Edward Newman, presented the Sir James Allen Rifle Cup, and medal to tho best rifle shot of the 18th party, E. C. Perry, and the Barraud and Abraham swimming cup and replica to the best swimmer, El. J. Murray. He also presented a stock whip and pair of spurs to the writers of the best essays on the A. and P.
