MOTORING FATALITY.
PLUftGE OVER CLIFF. PALMERSTON NORTH VICTIMS. Mr Bernard Osborne, aged 44, and Mr Wilfred Osborne, aged 83, both residents of Palmerston North, were killed yesterday when their car plunged over a cliff at the point known as the Devil’s Elbow on the Napier-Wairoa Road and fell 250 feet. Deceased’s car was coming from Gisborne and met a seryice car proceeding in the opposite direction. Their vehicle swerved sharply, grazed the side of the service car. and went over the side of the road down a very steep face. It was a tragic ending to a holiday trip which haa commenced on Boxing Day. The two brothers were returning from Gisborne to Palmerston North when the accident occurred.
They were builders and contractors by occupation. Mr Wilfred Osborne had been residing in Wellington until a few. weeks ago. Both were widely known and lived with their widowed mother at 223 Ferguson Street. Deep sympathy will be extended to the family. The late Mr Bernard Osborne vras a member of the Savage Club and the Palmerston North branch of the R.S.A. He saw active service on Gallipoli at the beginning of tire war and at the time of the Armistice was serving in France. His brother saw three years’ active service in France. Sisters of the deceased gentlemen are Mrs J. C. Young, Mrs J. Bowker and Nurse F. Osborne (all of Palmerston. North), Mrs J. Evans and Mrs A. Price (Gisborne). Surviving brothers are Messrs E. Osborne (Mercer), Mervyn Osborne (Wellington), G. Osborne (Wellington). K. Osborne (Wanganui) and S. Osborne (United States).
