AWAPUNI TRACK WORK. PREPARATIONS FOR LEVIN. (By “Binocular.”) Conditions at Awapuni were excellent for training operations this morning, although the tracks were slightly dead after rain. With one exception, all the fast work was carried out on the course proper, the flags being out to their fullest extent. . Mrs McDonald will be represented by only Spearopa (C.. Broughton) and Lady Spear (Bell) at Levin. The pair were sent along over seven furlongs which required 1.40 2-5. Both, however. had fair weights up. Kilorell, Desert Lad and Hymgreat were associated in a five furlongs gallop, the first-named pair finishing on terms in 1.9, Hymgreat being beaten off. ~ . Sporting Chance (L. Boyd) slipped over three furlongs in 40 2-5 sec after taking 14 2-5 for the. initial furlong. Great Lady (S. Bailey) and Gran Chaco (L. -Boyd) likewise ran three furlongs in 41 6ec, although they worked separately. Like Sporting Chance, they both had substantial weights up. _ . _ . King Ha] (R. Bovd) and Rule Britannia (J. McDowell) were together at the close of a five furlong scamper, the last three furlongs being left behind in 40 sec. Coon Song (K. Voitre) broke 1.8 in running five furlongs. The Hunting Song gelding ran his first and second furlong in evens, but slowed up at the finish. „ Evening Hero (J. McDowell) jumped away smartly to lead Braggart (Iv. Voitre) throughout. The Rangitero gelding was still a length to the gpod nt tho post after running the first furlong in 13 2-5 and the six furlongs ln Llkndudno (lightweight) and Acredity (R. Mellis) were practically on terms after running the last five finlongs of their six furlongs task in 1 9 4k>. 'Trojan Melody (R. Reed) was going well within himself after covering five furlongs in company with V allaruli (J. Nicholson) in 1.7 1-5. Hunting Boy (R. Reed) and He Wlianga (lightweight) were travelling well within themselves at tlio c ose ot a five furlongs task, the last half mile having been negotiated in 55 sec. Acco (11. Reed) and Royal If Iyer (J. Nicholson) were also going comfortably at the end of their five furlongs task, the first furlong having been left behind in 13 1-5, two in 26 2-o and the full distance in 1.8. Jean Ladosio (K. Voitre), alone, _ ran home from the half mite peg in oo 2-5 sec. The full-sister to Arajean displayed a slight tendency to run about in the straight. THE MILERS.
Robbie’s Mistake (J. McDowell) and Lady Alophen (Iv. Voitre) showed a lot of pace over a mile. They raced on terms to leave the first two furlongs behind in 28 sec, three in 41 1-5, and the half mile in 54 2-5. Robbie s Mistake finished the stronger to complete his task a length in advance in 1.62 1-5 Callamart (R. Reed) and Merry Melodv (J. Nicholson) required 29 2-o to complete the first two furlongs ol a similar mission, 44 sec for the three furlongs, 57 2-5 for tho first half, and 1.56 1-5 for the full distance Brilliant Light (J. McDowell) had Keddar (K. Voitre) as a partner over a mile, they running the first two furlongs in 28 sec, three in 41 4-o halt a mile in 54 2-5 and the full distance in 1.52 3-s—a tick slower than tlieir stable companion, Robbie’s Mistake. Keddar, who will essay Cup company at Levin, was, however, going nicely at the finish. GENERAL. The only gallop carried out on the plough was that of Patearoa (Pagan), who ran home from the three furlongs post in 41 2-5 sec. Pytliia, who was down to compete at Levin, will not make the trip, the Psychology, filly having gone lame after working on the sand the other morning. , , , . Shortly was not brought back home from Riccarton by W. Hawthorne, tho Hymestra gelding having found new ownership. The possessor of a good turn of speed, the chestnut has been particularly unlucky with the colours P AII the local team which made the trip to Riccarton have been on the easy list since their return. Glenrossie, who got cast in his box, has a nasty leg and it will be 6ome time before ho sports silk again. T George returned to Awapuni after the New Zealand Cup meeting, but he immediately went north on a business trip. All the team members were restricted to easy tasks on the plough this morning. THE JUMPERS.
Lady Mid, an aged Thurnham maro in T. George’s stable, was given a round over the hurdles on the trial grass. She demonstrated that she was no novice at the game by flying her fences.
Novar was given his first turn over tho battens since bis return to the active ranks by H. Gordon, and the Sarto gelding showed that he had not lost the art, although he improved as he advanced. Otairi (A. McDonald) is due to return to the hurdling ranks at Feilding, and, in preparation, he was sent over a couple of rounds of the battens. He maintained a fast clip throughout and was jumping cleanly at tho close.
