Aurora Borealis Wins Again ; Another Hurdles Race to Carinthia ; Rascal Wins Heathcote Handicap; Longbeach Handicap to Noteworthy

MANY HORSES FALL. EASY WIN FOR AURORA BOREALIS. CARINTHIA BEATS NUKUMAL RASCAL WINS HEATHCOTE HANDICAP. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 16. Grand National week was concluded to-dav with the Canterbury Jockey Club races' at Riccarton. There was fine weather and the track was in. good order, ine attendance was large. The totalizator handled £42,275, compared with £53,057 last year. THE EVENTS DESCRIBED. In the -Longbeach Handicap on reaching tho course proper Sleipner was ■out clear. Noteworthy joined Sleipner at the distance and went, on to win by two lengths. Pharoah . was four lengths away\ third, followed by Hunting Call and Gustavo. In the Aylesbury Steeplechase French Fleet fell. Tractarian was just in front of Kaikahu, Taratnoa and Diamond Jack at the sod wall. Tractarianvand Diamond Jack jumped 4he next two fences together. Kaikahu fell at the. top of the straight. Tractarian and Diamond Jack were just in front of Taramoa at the last fence, but Taramoa finished ,best, winning i by _ a length and a-hajf. ' Tractarian beat Diamond Jack by a length. Akbar was a poor fourth. .' In tho Sydenham Hurdles Carinthia started to improve his position five furlongs-from home, while a little further on Nukumai ran -up to Pangolin. Pangolin then retired, while at the '_ last hurdle, where Mangani fell, Carinthia joined Nukumai in the lead, with Mister Gamp closo up. In the run home Carinthia easily held on and beat Nukumai without trouble by half a length. Mister Gamp was four ' lengths away, with Paris fourth. In tho Styx Hurdles five furlongs from home Zippor drew clear of Star. Stranger 11. and Gay Fashion, the latter following him round the home turn with. West Dome closing up. Gay Fashion took chargo at the last hurdlo from West Dome and Zippor. In the run home Gay Fashion easily held her place and won easing up by a length from West Dome. Zippor was two lengths away, with Deluge and Star Stranger 11. next. , 'early"lost his Tider, and Radiac and Charlatan fell. The last time round Aurora Borealis headed Kapuna at the sod wall, with Snowfall, Matu and Corneroff handy. Valves was a long way back when he fell at the top of the straight. Aurora Borealis led into the straight. Snowfall followed her over the last fence, but Aurora Borealis beat Snowfall oatily by a length and a-half. Corneroff was four lengths away, followed by Kapuna and Matu. In tho Heathcoto Handicap Rascal drew out from Starshooter when the straight was reached and went on to win by two lengths. Rational II challenged Starshooter, but Starshooter beat her for second place by half alength. Town Major was two lengths further back. In tho Redcliffe Handicap, when the straight was reached Desert Song and Portray were together, but Desert Song gradually gained tho advantage, winning by half a length. High Gear, who finished on strongly, was half a length way, with Rapina a length further back.

In the Selwyn Handicap, The Raider led over the early stages, leading by half a dozen lengths, but Ranelagh joined him at the distance.
