CRICKET IN ENGLAND
THE LANCASHIRE MATCH. INTERESTING POSITION. HORNIBROOK’S BOWLING. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received May 16, 9.30 a.m. LONDON, May 15. In the cricket match, Australia and Lancashire, Australia in the first innings scored 115. • Lancashire had scored 101 for the loss of five wickets when stumps were drawn. Hopwood completed the rqut of the Australian batsmen after Kippax and Fairfax had made an attempt to stem the collapse. Kippax was undefeated and Fairfax again illustrated his value as a defensive batsman. McDonald bowled slower to-day, and the batsmen were very careful, five successive overs being maidens. However, with Fairfax’s dismissal, Hopwood soon got rid of the tail-enders. Lancashire opened sensationally. Hallows going first over. Hornibrook, bowling with great effect into the wind, completely tied up the batsmen, and after “yorking” Watson, he had two others caught out. Five wickets were down for seventy' when Paynter and Eckersley became associated and they carried the score past the century and were still together when stumps were drawn, leaving the game in an interesting position.
