HOSPITAL RATES

MANAWATU COUNTY’S CONTRIBUTION. “The board takes one-fifth of our general rates,” declared the chairman (Cr. TV. E. Barber) at yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council when the Palmerston North Hospital Board’s estimates cam© before the meeting. Cr. J. Boyce: As far as I can see, we are lucky it does not take more. The Hospitall is growing bigger every day and we can only look forward to an increase in our quota. I think we can feel very gratified that our increase this year is so small. Cr. J. H. Perrett: What security do you give for all those loans you raise—the rates? Cr. Boyce: The whole of the Palmerston North Hospital Board’s district is the security for the money raised by the hoard. The discussion then lapsed. The levy on the Council this year bv the hoard was £2522 17s 7d for maintenance and £464 6s lid for capital expenditure.
