CHINA’S PRESENT WAR
DECISIVE BATTLES. GOVERNMENT VICTORIES. REBELS SUFFER SEVERE LOSSES. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received Mav 14, 9.5 a.m. SHANGHAI, May 13. The Nanking Government claims three important victories. A report from the Shantung battlefront states that the rebels attacked and were repulsed with severe losses. What are believed to be the decisive battles of the present war are being fought in the vicinity of Hsuchow, Generals Feng Yuh-siang and Yen Hsi-shan are rushing available troops to prevent the Government advance along the Lunghai railway.
In the event of the rebels capturing Hsuchow, the Government will face a serious situation. Cliiang Kai-shek, therefore, is personally directing operations, and it is believed that he is capable of resisting any Kuominchun attack. Feng is the so-called Christian general, and leader of the rebelling Kuominchun forces.
