AEROPLANE’S VISIT. . (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) WOODVILLE, April 11. During tlio past few weeks several aeroplanes 'havo passed over the township, but it is somo tune since one actually landod here. This morning an acroplano bearing tho letters G-AAKK (believed to be Mr F. C. Chicester’s and flying very low, circled over Woodvillo for a considerable time, searching for a landing ground. Heavy rain was falling, and it was at first thought tho airmen were in difficulties. A largo mob of shoop were grazing on the racecourse, but tho caretaker, seeing tho airmens’ plight, rounded them up, and a perfect landing was mado. The reason for tho stop was to allow the pilot to chango his map. Tho aviators left later via Palmerston North, en route to Aucklarid. BOWLING. In a. friendly game against Pahiatua, Woodvillo sent six rinks to try conclusions on Pahiatua’s excellent green. Only one rink had completed play when a thunderstorm arrived, the remainder having one head to go. In each caso Woodvillo had a substantial lead. The visitors were extended . a very cordial welcome by tho president (Mr G. W. Chatwin) and the secretary (Mr W. Britland). WOODVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL. Tho monthly meeting of the Woodvillo County Council was held this morning, there being present Crs. M. 0. Grainger (chairman), Peeblos, Williams, Morgan, Galloway, Norman and Sheffield. Leave of abscnco was granted Cr. Mabey. A lotcr was read from the Main Highways Board, asking for particulars as to the arrangments, if any, in the Woodvillo County regarding the collection of rates and other contributions from contractors and others causing extraorinary traffic.—The chairman stated that the receipts of the Woodvillo County wSre nil. A letter was read from the Public Works Department, asking for a return of the moneys yet to b a paid out on works authorised, and for which subsidies had not yet boon received. —The information had been supplied. Tho Land and Incomo Tax Department wroto requesting a return of all persons and firms to whom contracts had been let during the past year.—Received. A communication was received from the Danncvirkc County Council stating that it had been notified that a stringer on the Mangapuaka—Kaukuhu Stream had been broken by tho Woodvillo Council’s lorries. Tho engineer had been asked to report, and as tho bridge served only two ratepayers—one in each county—it was decided to ask tho Woodvillo County to pay tho cost of repairs, or, 'in tho event of a new bridge bejng required, to pay half the cost of construction. As it was found necessary that a new bridge bo constructed (to cost £120) it was desired that the Woodvillo County pay half this cost. On tho motion of Cr. Galloway, it was decided that tho matter bo hold over for a month, to permit of enquiries to be made. A letter was received from Mr J. Doye, requesting that a waterpipo bo put in, across tho roadway.—This work had been done. It was decided that tho lease of offices to Mr W. A. Lyon be extended for a period of five years. A circular from the Counties Association, in reference to the annual conference, was held over for consideration. This body also forwarded a return of accident policies and premiums paid—the chairman stated there had been no accident in the Woodvillo County during the past year.* A copy of a letter from the Wanganui Automobilo Association, complaining of the road when contractors were excavating, wa3 received frpm the Counties Association. Various improvements and repairs in several ridings suggested by councillors were referred to the engineer. Accounts amounting to £1595 Is 8d woro passed for payment. LICENSES ISSUED. During tho month of March tho following registrations wero recorded by the town clerk at Woodvillo: —Dogs, 49, Health Act 3, public hall 1, kerbside pumps 2, cart 1, building permits 5,, heavy traffic 1, and motor drivers’ licenses 3. AUTHORISATION OF WORK. At to-day’s meeting of the Woodville County Council, an account for £7O w;as received from Mr A. Toxward for tho hire of a lorry. The chairman impressed upon councillors tho necessity for consulting the chairman or the engineer before work was done. Tho chairman was tho executive officer between meetings, and ho should be consulted. . Cr. Morgan stated that authority had been given to certain ratepayers to keep the channels open. The work had boon done in good faith, and ho moved that the account bo pased for payment. In seconding the motion Cr. Williams stated that he had boon given authority by a previous foreman to do work when it was required. The chairman stated that councillors would seo tho necessity for all work being authorised by . tho chairman, or the engineer. . . Cr. Morgan said he quite recognised this. T'hcro had apparently been a misunderstanding. The motion was carried.
