FATAL ACCIDENT
DEATH OF MOTOR-CYCLIST, ' COLLISION WITH CAR. There was a fatal termination to an accident which occurred on the Sanson Road last evening, when a young motor-cyclist, E. Brandeis, died in the Palmerston North Hospital following a collision with a service car. Deceased . who resides at 46 A Devon Street. Wellington, was riding a motor cycle in the direction of Palmerston North from Wanganui when the collision occurred with the service car which was en route to Wanganui, and was driven by a man named Nicholson. Mr Brandeis suffered a compound fracture of a leg and internal injuries, but a pillion passenger on his machine and another in a side-car escaped unhurt. The motor-cyclist was conveyed to the Palmerston North Hospital by Mr R. C. E. Malcolm, a Wellington motorist, who arrived on the scene shortly afterwards, but he succumbed to his injuries at 12.45 a.m. to-day. Extensive damage was done to the motor-cycle, but the service car was able to continue its journey. CYCLIST INJURED. COLLISION AT INTERSECTION. When Mr Ernest Henderson, a farmer, of Rangitane, was proceeding along Featlierston Street shortly before 2 p.m. yesterday, tho running-board of his motor-car was struck at the intersection of Rangitikei Street by a motor-cycle ridden by Rov Stanley Sutton, aged 20, of who was proceeding from the Square and intended to cross the Cuts to tho left side of the head were suffered by the motor-cyclist, who was removed to the Palmerston North Hospital. His injuries are not, however, reported to be serious. The occupants of the car, con sisting of Mr and Mrs Henderson and three children,’ were not injured. HORSE JUMPS ON CAR. DRIVER’S WIFE INJURED. MASTERTON, April 6. One of a mob of four horses jumped on a motor car driven by Mr E. Wilton, of Gladstone Road, when he was returning home from Masterton last night. Mrs Wilton, who was in. the front seat with her husband, was severely cut about the face by flying glass from the windscreen, and the car was badly damaged. The horses were feeding at the roadside near Gladstone. Mr Wilton attempted to pass them, and apparently they became frightened by the light® on the car. They careered about, and one, evidently in a blind panic, took a flying leap at the car and landed right on top of it. The windscreen was shattered, and the front part of the car was bent and battered. Mrs Wilton was cut badly, but after having medical attention was able to proceed home. A sleeping child in the back seat was not injured, and Mr Wilton also escaped injury. FATAL COLLISION. AUCKLAND, April 6. Fatal injuries were received by Arthur Loxdale Frost, of Landscape Road, Papatoetoe, as the result of His bicycle colliding with a motor car at the corner of Cortage Road and Station Road, Papatoetoe, shortly ’ before five o’clock this afternoon. The car was driven by Mr William Douglas, of Mangere. Thrown heavily from his machine, Mr Frost received a fracture of the skull and was taken to the hospital, where he died half an hour later. FRACTURED SKULL. MASTERTON, April 6. ' Slipping from the running board of a car, Miss Stella Hanning, of Seatoun Road, Miramar, fell on the pavement in Queen Street early this morning and sustained a fracture of the base of the skull. Dr. Cook was called immediately. Miss Hanning was taken to a private hospital in Masterton. Her condition is serious.
