DETAILS OF SCHEME. TO BE RELEASED SHORTLY. WELLINGTON, April 7. Details of a scheme for the relief of unemployment, which the Minister of Labour, Hon. W. A. Veitch, intends to put into operation, will be made public in the course of the next few days, according to a statement made by the Minister at a farewell to Mr Andrew Collins, one of the founders of trade unionism in New Zealand, on Saturday. “It was _my privilege to set up a board to investigate the problem of unemployment in New Zealand, and to ask it to submit to me a report and recommendations,” said Mr Veitch, who added that he had drawn up a scheme, which had been approved of bV Cabinet, and was now in the process of drafting. He could not giTe details at present, but it would be released in the course of a few days. “When you find details of the scheme and read criticism and comments, will you please understand that it is impossible to devise a scheme which will appeal to everybody as perfect,” Mr Veitch proceeded. “It will do a good deal to relieve the unemployment problem in New Zealand, and we can improve on it. We propose to bring about the termination of the present position.”
