FOXTON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Feb. 24. A very representative meeting of F’oxton retailers was held on Friday evening. Mr D. Christie was voted to the chair and said the object of the meeting woe to bring about closer co-operation among the various businesses in the town and to arrange regarding liolidays etc. A general discussion took place and it was decided to form a retailers' association. The following officers were elected: President, Mr D. Christie; vice-president, Mr J. M. Thomson; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Christie. It was decided to discuss the constitution and rules at a meeting to be held next week. Captain L. Hayes, of the Marine Department, has been carrying out a biological investigation into the habits of the whitebait in the Manwatu River and tributaries during the punt few days. Mr E. T. Jackson, of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand is at present acting ns relieving manager at Rongotea. Mr J. W. C. Ogle, of Inglewood is acting as relieving officer in Mr Jackson’s place during his übsence. Mr A. B. McCorkindale, of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand has received notice of his transfer to the Feeding branch. Mr McCorkindale’s departure from Foxton will be regretted as he has actively interested himself in practically all branches of sport in the town. As a member of tho Foxton Rugby Football Club lie was a player of promise last season while he proved himself equally successful on the tennis courts and in acquatic events. He was also one of those instrumental in the formation of the Foxton Surf and Lifesaving Club, a member of the patrol and official of the club. As a result of his departure the tennis and surf clubs will have to find new secretaries.
