LINTON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) LINTON, Feb. 23.

On Friday evening the Linton Tennis Club held a euchre party and dance in the hall. Visitors were present from Whakarongo, Tokomaru and Palmerston North. The winners of the euchre prizes were Mrs Moyes and Mr Murray Rix. The. dancemusic was provided by Misses Batchelar, B. Currin, Mrs Eggera (Whakarongo) and Mr J. L. Nash. The duties of M.C. were performed by Mr M. Rix. On Saturday afternoon a match between the Whakarongo and Linton Tennis Clubs was played on the home courts, the Linton team being the winners. The following are the details, the Whakarongo players being mentioned first: —Ladies’ Singles. —Mias Vautier beat Miss Currin 7.4, Mrs Oxenham lost to Miss Blake 5 —7, Mrs Sly beat Mrs Knipe 7—o, Mrs Eggers beat Mrs Aldrich 7—2. Men’s singles.—Vautier lost to Pringle I—7,1 —7, Clark beat Currin 7—3, Mills lost to Beckett I—7, Oxenham lost to Rix I—7. Ladies’ doubles. —Miss Vautier and Mrs Oxenham lost to Misses Currin and Blake I—7, Mrs Sly and Mrs Eggers beat Mrs Knipe and Mrs Alrich 7—l“ Men’s doubles. —Vautier and Clark lo6t to Pringle and Currin 2—7, Mills and Oxenham lost to Beckett and Rix 6—7. Mixed doubles. — Vautier and Mrs Sly beat Pringle and Mrs Knipe 7 —4, Clark and Mrs Oxenham lost to Currin and Miss Blake 4—-7, Mills and Miss Vautier beat Beckett and Miss Currin 7—6, Oxenham and Mrs Eggers lost to Rix and Mrs Aldrich 5—7. Whakarongo 7 sets, 75 games; Linton 9 sets, 83 games. The return match between Rangiotu and Linton, which had to bo abandoned on Saturday, February 16th, will be played at Rangiotu on March 8. Mr and Mrs J. Batchelar are spending a holiday in Auckland. Mr W. Russell, who has been in hospital, has returned to his home in Linton.
