SUPPORT FOR SCHEME. DRAINAGE BOARD DISAPPOINTED APPEAL TO BE RENEWED. Disappointment at the Manawatu Drainage Board’s decision not to be represented on the deputation to the Government in connection with the application for a £1 for £1 subsidy for the flood control scheme was expressed at a meeting of the Manawatu-Oroua River Board to-day, and a resolution was carried urging the former body to reconsider its decision. Mr W. S. Carter presided and others present were Messrs. A. Buchanan, J. Harrison, H. Barber and A. Seifert. As the outcome of the response to the board’s request for support, it was resolved that deputations again wait on the Kairangva County Council, Manawatu Drainage Board, Moutoa Drainage Board and Palmerston North Borough Council, and that the Levin Borough Council be also asiked to reconsider its decision. The board decided to advwe Hon. J. G. Cobbo of the proposed flood control scheme, with which it was anxious that ho should become acquainted, and extended an invitation to him to inspect the area. . It was pointed out that a large section of the ratepayers of the Manawatu Drainage Board were vitallv interested in the proposed modified scheme, and that the local bodies were not being asked to contribute, tho money to be found from the Government subsidy and the area which would benefit according to the classification.
