BUSH FIRES.

POSITION IN HAND IN NELSON DISTRICT. %

Per Press Association. NELSON, Jan. 23,

No serious damage with the exception of the destruction of 15 acres of valuable scenic reserve at Longford, on the Nelson-Munchison Road, is reported during the week-end. The State Forest Service gang has the fire well in hand. The fire in the Tophouse region is being tackled from the wings and the valleys leading up to this .area is being cleaned up. The Reefton forestry officer reports a considerable number of bush fires from smoldering abandoned collieries, some of which has been burning for over 20 years.
