FIRE IN TIMBER YARDS.
MUCH DAMAGE CAUSED,

GISBORNE, Jan. 22. An early morning fire broke out in Cave Bros’, timber yards aud before being quelled the machinery shop and boiler house were destroyed and a large number of modern saw benches, planing mills and moulding «iachines practically ruined. Fortunately there was no wind or large stacks of timber close at hand would have gone. The insurances total £2BIO. BLAZE AT OPOTIKI. OLD BUILDING RAZED. Per Press Association. OPOTIKI, Jan. 23. Early this morning fire totally destroyed an old' wooden two-storey dwelling owned by Mr G. S. Moody. The house was occupied by Maoris. The building had been erected about 50 years ago and was the oldest in the borough. The insurance is not available.
