(From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, Aug. 13. Miss M. Arnold, sole teacher of tho Waitohi School, has entered a private hospital in Palmerston North where she underwent an operation on Friday. Every wish for a speedy recovery is extended to her. Mr K. MoWatters, bank clerk, late of Rongotea, is now stationed at Matamata permanently. Considerable interest is being displayed this year in connection with the Rongotea Horticultural Society and at present three beautiful trophies for competition at the forthcoming bulb show on September 14, including the 25 guinea Gorton Cup, are on display in Rongotea. It is exEected that considerable competition will e forthcoming by exhibitors in the endeavour to win these handsome trophies and that the show will be a huge success. RONGOTEA, Aug. 16. The usual monthly meeting of the Town Board was held on Monday evening when there were present Mr L. H. Yarrall (chairman), and Messrs Trenkner, Teaz, Arnott, Croucher and the secretary (Mr C. P. Wood). A letter from the Manawatu County Council intimating that they were going to grade the Rongotea-Kairanga Road and also that they were making application to the Highways Board to have the road declared a main highway.—lt was decided to write to the County Council thanking it for the action being taken by it. The secretary of the Anglican Church Central Vestry wrote asking for exemption for the church from the sanitation rates.—Declined. A letter was received from the Rongotea School Committee requesting that Mr Gould be approached with the view to having him clear away the watercress in the creek running through his property in Severn:. Street as the water was blocking up in this area. . GENERAL. The following resolution was passed: “That the Rongotea Town Board hereby makes and levies under section 89 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, on the occupier of every property within the town district of Itongotea on which a building is erected, a uniform sanitation fee of 25s per pan, such fee to be for tho period commenced Ist April, 1927, and ending 31st March, 1928, to become due and payable in one sum at tho office of the Board on the Ist September, 1927. It was resolved: “That the Town Board hereby makes and levies under section 35 of the Town Board Act, 1908, for the period commenced on April 1, 1927, and ending March 31, 1928, a general rate »£ 5d in the £1 on the rateable value of all rateable property within the Rongotea Town District on the basis of the unimproved Value, such rate to become due and payable in one sum on September 1, 1927.” It was decided that the Manawatu County Council be asked to bring pressure to beer to get the Rongotea-Kairanga Road gazetted as a main highway and also intimating that the estimated value of maintaining tho road in the Town Board’s area was £l5O. It was decided that the school committee be advised that, provided they put the lavatories on the outer playing area in order for public use, the board will not make any sanitation charge in respect thereof. . The chairman, in addressing the meeting, extended thanks to Mr Croucher for approaching the Manawatu County Council at its meeting on behalf of the board and ratepayers and for the time and labour devoted by him in that connection. Accounts amounting to £34 5s 4d were passed for payment.

FOOTBALL.

Tho officials and players of Central Football Club are pleased to learn that the outstanding ability of their player, G. Goldfinch, has merited him a place in the Manawhenua team with which he departed on Tuesday for the tour, and extended him their congratulations on his selection by the Manawatu Union.
