(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHHURST, Aug.. 16.

On Friday evening the Forester’s held a successful card par>y and dance in the Town Hall at which there was a good attendance. Mr M. Findlay carried out the duties of M.C. and Mr and Mrs Martin and Mr Ebett supplied the music. Mrs Astwood won the ladies’ prize and Mr H. Manle won the gentlemen’s prize. The consolation prizes were won by Miss Crawford and Mr Crowley. . Miss Maxwell, who has been relieving at the local school, hae moved on to Wavorley, and Mr Hutton headmaster, who had been on the sick list, resumed his duties on Monday. A gang of public works men are planting willows around one of the towers which is threatened by the river. The main electric litres are affixed cross the Pohangina river and the Ruahino Range. Mr Brown, of the local post office, who is now on holiday leave has been transferred to Motu. Gisborne. He is succeeded by Mr Dinn’an from Upper Hutt. The children of the local school will be holding a fancy dress ball early next month.
