UNEMPLOYMENT FUND.

“NOT GOING IN CHARITY.”

STATEMENT BY MAYOR.

“I assure you that the money is not being used as a ‘dole,’ but has been paid into the Borough’s general account,” stated the Mayor at the meeting of the Borough Council last night in reply to a question by Cr. Milverton as to how the money collected for the Mayor’s unemployment fund was being expended. The money would be utilised in paying relief wages for the unemployed men who had been found work by the Borough Council. Cr. Milverton remarked that he had heard that certain people were trading on the fund. The Mayor: I want to make it absolutely definite that not a penny collected on behalf of this fund is going in charity.
