(From Our Own Correspondent.) BAINESSE, Aug. 15.
An eclipse of all previous carnivals took place on Friday ovening at Bainesse School which was taxed to its utmost for accommodation. The children were not lacking in punctuality and everything was in perfect order for tho grand march just beforo 8 p.m. Tho gay costumings of the children with the artistic decorations presented a fairyland spectacle. Tho programme for the children’s period was most interesting, and from tho tiniest tots to the seniors not a traco of shyness or awkwardness wn3 evident. Each joined heartily in all that was presented and it was gratifying to see them enjoying the evening in such a thorough manner. Miss McKenzie as usual cannot be complimented too highly on producing such an array of dances and dancers. Fun was also induged in with sparklets, etc., and at tho conclusion of tho children’s turn a large iced eako presented by Miss McKenzie, was cut, it being illuminated with 70 tiny candles. A balloon for each child was also part of the decorations of the school. After 10.30 p.m. tho adults enjoyed the remainder of the evening. Master Pollard and Miss M. Roberston secured the spot waltz prize. Mr T. Grammer acted as M.C. Mesdamcs Legg, Millard, Grammer, Pollard, Waller and Pearce carried out the which were much admired. Mr Sandlo lent catering and dccorirtivo arrangements a helping hand with tho children during the dances and supper, and tho evening was a pronounced success. Miss McKenzie supplied excellent music throughout the function. Tho programme of children’s dances was as follows: Grand March, Pease Porridge Hot, Norwegian Mountain March, Nine Pins, Rejoice Galop, Ace of Diamonds, Finger polka, Pop Goes the Weasel, Did you ever seo a Lassie, Ace of Diamonds, Pease Porridge Hot, Auld Lang Syne. The dresses were as follows: Miss McKenzie, night; Mis 3 D. Lovelock, rod rosebud; Miss B. Stevens, fairy queen; Miss M. Prebble, fairy; Master N. Prebble, prince; Jim Andrews, Highland laddie; Ray Andrews, Father Christmas; Selina Grammer, pink moss rose; Audrey BrookTaylor, Eastern lady; Lois Brook-Taylor, folly; Marjory Tennent, Star 3 and Stripes; Dorothy Tennent, good luck; Agnes 'icnnent, balloon girl; Donald Tennont, footballer; Dave Tennent, order of the bath; Joan Logg, bride; Collin Waller, chaff; B.
